The tail or caudal fin of the southern right whale, is one of the most powerful natural forces in the animal kingdom and can prove it in every jump that performs the whales, taking three quarters of its body parts of, more than 40 tons, out of the water.

It consists of a fibrous tissue that binds the body through the caudal peduncle formed by powerful muscles. The adult whales come to have a size (width) of 5 meters. In the sightings can see them maintaining this position for hours, going to breathe every few minutes, returning to resume the same position a moment later. Scientists say that this behavior could be due to thermoregulation, or even pre-birth position.
